Baker-Johnson-Pickett Farmstead

Hamilton County, Ind.

Historic Preservation

PROJECT CATEGORIES

Nestled just east of Baker’s Corner on 236th Street, this historic farmstead stood for over 150 years. First home to Jesse Baker—a Quaker and abolitionist—it later became part of the Johnson and Pickett families’ story, shaping the agricultural history of the region.

When development along US-31 put this site at risk, we stepped in. Our team assessed two key structures: a two-story post-and-beam farmhouse and a three-portal barn from the early 1900s. While the house had been heavily modified, the barn remained remarkably intact.

We documented the entire site—photographs, detailed reports, and 3D laser scans—to ensure this story won’t be lost. The structures are now reimagined at Fieldgate Farm with the help of Indiana Landmarks and Brandt Construction.
